Sonia Fynn | Fine Art

Sonia Fynn has worked as an artist and illustrator since leaving college where she studied fine art / painting and sculpture. Her formal training began at age 13 as a junior scholarship entrant to Harrow School of Art, where the emphasis was on daily drawing from life, a discipline which has proved invaluable throughout her career. The late 1950s and 1960s were a heady time, and art school life at Harrow was enriched by post-graduate students from the Royal College of Art coming as visiting teachers. After four years at Farnham school of art, Sonia worked as an in-house and later freelance illustrator for the examining boards. She designed and illustrated papers in european, asian and african languages for export all over the world. Her work was also commissioned by Longmans and other publishers in the field of education. Individual tutoring completed a busy life in the arts.

For the last 25 years Sonia has been a full-time painter, working from her studio in Chagford, Devon. Using mainly watercolour and acrylic she developed a technique of layered application more usually associated with oil or tempera. The work is developed in an iterative process over a firm base of drawing.

She as been an academician of the South West Academy for twenty years and has been a member of the 21 Group of Artists since 2014.
